Flying display and static exhibition
The NH‑90 NFH (NATO Frigate Helicopter) will be present in a dual role: on static display, allowing visitors to observe the aircraft up close, and during a flying demonstration, showcasing its capabilities in the air. Designed in Europe, the NH‑90 NFH is tailored for modern maritime operations.
Designed for operations at sea
Developed for demanding maritime environments, the NH‑90 NFH performs missions such as maritime surveillance, anti‑submarine warfare, tactical transport and search‑and‑rescue at sea. Its design and onboard systems are optimized for operations over water and from naval vessels.
Belgian operations from the coast
In Belgian service, the NH‑90 NFH is operated by the Belgian Air Force, in support of the Belgian Navy’s maritime missions. The helicopters are mainly based at Koksijde Air Base, located on the coast, a key location for missions over the North Sea.
Key characteristics
The NH‑90 NFH features a modern design with dimensions suited for shipborne operations:
- Engines: 2 Rolls‑Royce Turbomeca RTM322 turboshaft engines
- Length: approximately 19.6 m
- Main rotor diameter: 16.3 m
- Maximum take‑off weight: around 10.6 tonnes
- Maximum speed: approximately 300 km/h
- Range: over 900 km depending on mission profile
Optimised for shipboard use
A distinctive feature of the NH‑90 NFH is its folding main rotor blades and folding tail boom, reducing its footprint and enabling efficient deployment aboard frigates.
