A rare Corsair set to appear in Florennes

A rare warbird in Europe

One of the very rare airworthy F4U-5NL Corsairs in Europe will be flying at Florennes. This iconic historic aircraft is sure to capture everyone’s attention during its display.

A veteran of the Korean War

Chance-Vought Corsair #124541, built in 1950, served with VMF-513 during the Korean War. This U.S. Marine Corps unit was among the most renowned operational squadrons of its time and was nicknamed the“Flying Nightmares” .

Notably, this aircraft still retains its complete history, which is extremely rare for this type of military aircraft.

A rich history and long restoration

After spending around 25 years in a museum in Argentina, the aircraft was sold in 1991 and transferred to Le Castellet, France, in 1994. It underwent an extensive and meticulous restoration over many years.

In 2009, it was acquired by MaxAlpha Aviation and moved to Germany. Since November 2023, the Corsair belongs to Flying Legends GmbH and is now based in Siegerland.

Impressive performance and iconic design

Powered by a Pratt & Whitney engine delivering up to 2,400 horsepower, the Corsair could reach speeds of approximately 656 km/h.

Its distinctive inverted gull wings make it one of the most recognizable aircraft of its era.

Flown by an experienced pilot

The Corsair, painted in the colors of VMF-513, will be flown by, a well-known warbird pilot in Belgium.

Its presence will undoubtedly be a highlight for both aviation history enthusiasts and the general public.
