An aircraft designed for ground‑attack missions
The Mirage 2000D, introduced in the early 1990s, is a twin‑seat aircraft dedicated to ground‑attack operations. Developed from the Mirage 2000N, it retains the delta wing that characterises the Mirage family. It is used for precision strikes and low‑altitude missions, both day and night.
Systems and capabilities
The Mirage 2000D features a terrain‑following radar enabling very low‑level flight, as well as a navigation and attack system adapted to air‑to‑ground missions.
It can employ various guided weapons, including the GBU‑48/49/50 series, and can carry a laser designation pod.
The mid‑life upgrade includes:
- the integration of a 30 mm cannon,
- upgraded communication and data‑link systems,
- replacement of Magic II missiles with MICA IR for self‑defence.
Basing and units
All Mirage 2000Ds are based at Air Base 133 Nancy‑Ochey and operate within:
- 01.003 « Navarre »,
- 02.003 « Champagne »,
- 03.003 « Ardennes ».
