This legendary biplane symbolizes the training of American military pilots before and during the Second World War. Robust, simple, and particularly reliable, the Stearman trained several generations of aviators and remains today one of the most recognizable historic aircraft in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
The first Stearman aircraft was built in 1933, designed by the Stearman Aircraft Company.
From 1934, the US Army Air Corps began searching for a new aircraft intended for the basic training of its pilots. The Stearman was presented and proved to be a perfect match for the required specifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boeing Stearman quickly became the standard training aircraft of the American armed forces. Its success was such that 3,510 aircraft were produced in 1940 alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over time, several versions were developed, notably with different engine configurations, adaptations for instrument flight, or modifications for civilian use such as agricultural crop-dusting.\nAs a result, the Stearman became one of the most widely used aircraft in the United States during this period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
The primary mission of the Boeing Stearman was clear: to train military pilots. Thousands of American aviators made their very first flights in this aircraft before transitioning to more advanced airplanes and then joining operational units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its simple design, excellent flight stability, and forgiving handling characteristics made it an ideal training platform. For many pilots, the Stearman represented the very first step toward flying fighters, bombers, or transport aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
The beautiful Stearman N75MR presented at the BAFDAYS left the factory on March 26, 1942, under serial number 75 7529. It served with the US Army Air Force (USAAF) from 1942 to 1945, playing a full role in the training effort during the Second World War. It will be presented as a static display during our event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
After the war, like many Stearmans, the aircraft was converted for civilian use.
It was employed as an agricultural crop-dusting aircraft in California until an accident occurred in 1974. Several changes of ownership and successive restorations followed, allowing this historic aircraft to be preserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Today, the Stearman N75MR is owned by a member of the French CAF, the French branch of the Commemorative Air Force, an organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of historic aircraft. Since 2025, the aircraft has been based at Plessis Belleville Airfield, north of Paris. It is also made available to the Aero Vintage Academy at La\u202fFert\u00e9 Alais Airfield, with the aim of offering the public flights aboard vintage aircraft and sharing the history of aviation with as many people as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
During the event, visitors will be able to admire the Boeing Stearman Model 75 in static display. Everyone will have the opportunity to observe its classic biplane lines, discover its robust structure and uncluttered cockpit, better understand the fundamental role this aircraft played in military pilot training, and get up close to an airplane that has witnessed more than 80 years of aviation history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
